Profile
Alexander specialises in complex commercial and corporate disputes, restructuring & insolvency work and employment law. In this respect, Alexander has appeared as lead counsel before the Singapore State Courts, the Singapore Supreme Court and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre and has successfully represented private individuals, statutory bodies, multinational and institutional corporations and financial institutions (local and international)
Alexander was recently named by the Singapore Business Review in February 2023 as one of Singapore’s “Top 30 Most Influential Lawyers 40”.
Notable matters Alexander has recently been involved in include:
- Advising and acting for an international bank in cross-border debt restructuring proceedings involving an Indonesian conglomerate before the Singapore High Court in 2023
- Advising and acting for one of Singapore’s largest scaffolding and formwork businesses in civil proceedings against a local developer
- Advising and acting for a multinational pharmaceutical company in an SIAC arbitration proceeding
- Advising and acting for Bank of America in objecting to the proposed restructuring of the Pacific Andes Resources Group: see Pacific Andes Resources Development Ltd and other matters [2016] SGHC 210)
- Advising and acting for a US Fortune 500 company in an SIAC arbitration proceeding involving the construction of a multi-million-dollar oil refinery in South Asia
- Advising and acting for a large, local healthcare group in the Singapore High Court and the Singapore Mediation Centre to enforce certain sale and purchase agreements involving assets valuated at approximately SGD 20 million
- Regularly advising and representing clients in civil claims involving minority oppression, derivative actions and shareholder disputes
- Obtaining recognition, registration and enforcement of foreign judgments in Singapore
- Advising and acting for statutory bodies (e.g., the Singapore Nursing Board, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Board, the Council for Estate Agencies, the Singapore Dental Council) in the performance of their regulatory or disciplinary functions
- Representing institutional creditors’ interests amidst Swiber’s entry into judicial management
- Obtaining a court-ordered repatriation of Singapore-based assets to the insolvency administrator in Germany: see Beluga Chartering GmbH (in liquidation) and others v Beluga Projects (Singapore) Pte Ltd (in liquidation) and another (deugro (Singapore) Pte Ltd, non-party) [2014] SGCA 14; and Beluga Chartering GmbH (in liquidation) v Beluga Projects (Singapore) Pte Ltd (in liquidation) and another (Deugro (Singapore) Pte Ltd, non-party) [2013] 2 SLR 1035
