Patsy joined Tan Peng Chin LLC as a Director in October 2009 from One Legal LLC. She heads the patents and designs practice group.
Patsy has been practicing in the area of intellectual property (IP) since 1994. She is acclaimed for her expertise in strategic IP protection, management and enforcement as well as her insightful knowledge of IP laws across jurisdictions. Patsy believes in a proactive solution-oriented approach and is committed to providing value-add to clients.
She is a Registered Patent Agent in Singapore. She successfully completed and passed the South East Asian Drafting Course (SEAD Course) in 2000. She is also registered as a consultant with the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) under the SCOPE IP program.
Patsy has an active patent practice. She handles a broad spectrum of patent advisory and prosecution work for clients in wide-ranging industries.
She is well versed with the patent laws and procedures across jurisdictions, including the Patent Cooperation Treaty. Her forte is in advising clients on patent filing and prosecution strategies tailored to their specific requirements and commercial objectives.
She manages patent portfolios for clients and has handled many patent filings both locally and abroad in a variety of fields. Her significant clients include a top US filing corporation in the semiconductor industry, a Japanese pharmaceutical company and a local government agency. She has been the primary adviser to a local technology company which is leveraging on its patents as a competitive edge for entry into overseas markets.
Patsy has assisted many renowned multi-national corporations and local enterprises in protecting their trade marks, designs, copyright and other IP rights. She advises clients on trade mark filing strategies, drawing on her familiarity with the laws of different jurisdictions, including the Madrid Protocol.
She is actively involved in advisory work on all aspects of IP matters including registrability, patentability and infringement issues. She handles contentious IP matters, and has achieved successful results for her clients in a number of trade mark opposition cases and court infringement actions. She has undertaken criminal prosecution against counterfeiters of luxury goods.
Patsy’s experience also extends to advising on and drafting various agreements including franchises, licenses, assignments, joint collaboration, distribution, trade mark co-existence and confidentiality agreements.
On the organizational front, Patsy holds the position of Secretary of the International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property (AIPPI), Singapore Group. She is also active as a member the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) and the Association of Singapore Patent Agents (ASPA). She was on the organizing sub-committee for the AIPPI Forum and Exco Meeting 2007 in Singapore.
Both as a representative of AIPPI and in her personal capacity, Patsy has made representations in several consultations conducted by the IPOS. She has also participated actively in dialogue sessions held by the IPOS.
