Brief Background
As a proud alumni of Dunman High School (德明政府中学), Wenshan is effectively bilingual in English and Chinese. During the course of his studies at the National University of Singapore, Wenshan was admitted into the Student Exchange Programme and spent a semester studying at the East China University of Politics and Law (华东政法大学) in Shanghai, a university specializing in Chinese law and politics.

He joined Tan Peng Chin LLC as a pupil in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Department in June 2008 and was admitted to the Singapore Bar in September 2009. He is currently an Associate with our Intellectual Property, Media & Entertainment Department. As part of his Pro Bono activities, Wenshan also volunteers with the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme run by the Law Society of Singapore.

Personal
The first inkling I had that I might ever heed the call to become a lawyer was when at age 9, I ruthlessly bought over all my younger sister’s Chinese New Year sweets for fifty cents and made her sign a document to the effect. Of course, the first idea I ever had of equitable justice was also when my father made me return all the sweets. I didn’t get my fifty cents back either.

With the benefit of ample hindsight and a law degree, I am certain that 1) I could have drafted that document better 2) there is a lot more to the law than its mere wording. I believe that the law cannot be separated from its context in each area (be it contractual, criminal or intellectual property) and being able to appreciate the non-legal context makes one a more effective lawyer. For me, this is what makes the practice of law a constantly enlightening and challenging one. On that note, I am also grateful for my colleagues at Tan Peng Chin LLC whom it is my daily privilege to work with and learn from.

Beyond my desk and the glow of the computer screen, I indulge in reading an eclectic choice of English and Chinese books and the practice of Wing Tsun. In the right seasons, I may be caught drifting under the waters or basking on the sands of quiet, secluded islands.
