After a year or so in legal practice, I was lured by the fresh air and seductive greens of a premier golf and country club in Singapore, and joined the club as in-house counsel.  It was an enriching experience in terms of my exposure to the internal workings of an organization as well as interaction with people from all walks of life, from the workers on the ground to the elite of Singapore’s society.

After six fulfilling years with the club, in the interim of which I got married and had two children, I wanted to feel the pulse of corporate life again and further my legal development.

Despite misgivings by those around me about going back to legal practice, and my own apprehension, I decided to take the plunge and dive into the hectic world of corporate law practice.  Although there was a bit of struggle to adjust initially, Tan Peng Chin LLC has made my transition back to private practice surprisingly smooth.  While the work remains varied and challenging (and dealings with clients an art to be practised and cultivated!), with the guidance of supervising partners and support of colleagues, I am staying afloat.  I have not regretted my return to private practice (as yet!).

A laudable aspect of the firm is its encouragement to staff, including lawyers, to maintain a good work-life balance.  I am proof that it is not lip service, as I have just returned from my 3 month’s maternity leave after having my third child.

My main areas of practice include banking and general corporate work such as drafting of banking documents and commercial agreements, advising on employment law and corporate secretarial work.
